Rainbow Photonics was founded as a spin-off from the Nonlinear Optics Laboratory of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, in 1997. A Swiss corporation with headquarters in Zurich where the production of organic crystals and THz instruments is located.

The highest nonlinearity of the organic crystals DSTMS, DAST and OH1 for THz generation and ultrafast electrooptic modulation. High efficiency THz generation and detection in compact systems up to 20 THz.

Rainbow Photonics Ltd. is the first Swiss company offering THz technology and it is the pioneer in broadband THz, which has been based on our organic materials since 1997.

Dr. Carolina Medrano

Holds a PhD in physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and in 1990 she joined the nonlinear optics laboratory at ETH-Zurich from where the company spun off in 1997. Her area of expertise includes organic functional materials for nonlinear optical, electro-optic, and terahertz-wave applications as well as inorganic photosensitive materials for light processing, dynamic holography, phase conjugation, and frequency doubling for laser technology.

Prof. Dr. Peter Günter
Co-Founder & Chairman

Now a Professor em. of Experimental Physics at the ETH Zurich, he was head of the Non-​linear Optics Laboratory at the Institute of Quantum Electronics, active in the development and application of novel materials for photonics. His research in development of new non-​linear optical, organic and inorganic materials for photonics applications kept him in close contact with application-oriented research in short-pulsed terahertz, integrated electro-optics and nonlinear optics. DSTMS, OH1, and the technology to produce efficient THz radiation were invented in his laboratory.

Tobias Bach
Sales Engineer and Developer

Holds a PhD in physics from  ETH Zurich, Switzerland and has experience as a development engineer for nonlinear optical applications and next generation lithography solutions. His more than 10 years experience in both THz technology as well as working in international research groups in collaboration with industry and at various universities worldwide, makes him a perfect sales and development engineer.

Mara Pürro
Crystal Technology
As our dedicated crystal growth specialist with excellent skills in optical preparation, she is working in close contact with our team of organic chemists. She is in charge of the preparation of THz generators starting from the synthesized material up to packaging of the final product.
